While fans might think they know Soulja Boy through his Instagram and other social media platforms, he’s confident people will be surprised by what they learn about him watching the show.
“This more hands-on, you know what I’m saying?” he explains to HipHopDX in a recent interview. “Still, it’s real. It’s real, for sure. But it’s more formatted to where you getting a more introspective perspective. I’m breaking down my life. I’m breaking down how I’m feeling before I’m getting on stage. You getting to see the behind-the-scenes. And I love the way that we presented the show, though.
“I wanted the people to get to see what really go on in my life, like when I’m hopping up out the bed, turning my swag on, when I’m going to sleep … people want to see that, you know what I’m saying? Obviously from the reactions that I’ve been getting, I’m like, ‘OK, people want to really see my life.’ So I put it out there.”
For Soulja Boy, the most exciting element of the show is the unexpected. Unlike more controlled forms of social media, the docu-series presents Soulja Boy more uncut than ever.
“You never know what can happen,” he adds. “When you going live on these platforms, you can hit the end button. When you making a video, you can edit it and upload it and choose what you want. So on the show, I told them, ‘Don’t stop the cameras, keep it rolling. I don’t care what happen.’ And I think it was a good … I think it’s going to be great.”
It’s almost assumed Soulja Boy knows how to make good television. After all, who could forget his viral interview with The Breakfast Club in 2019 when “Draaaaaaaaaake?” became a meme? Three years later, he’s still confident he had the biggest comeback of all time, which he proudly proclaims in The Life Of Draco trailer. Still, he didn’t anticipate it becoming such a pop culture moment.
“Man, I wasn’t expecting it at all,” he admits. “I just went up there, spoke, had a good time, talked to The Breakfast Club. I just spoke my mind, you know what I’m saying? And when I got home, when I got to the hotel, my phone was going crazy and the internet was going viral. I was like, ‘What happened? What did I say?’ And it was like, ‘You was like, Drake?’ I was like, ‘Oh, yeah.’ Yeah. But nah, man, it was a good interview, man.”
The dramatic response came after Breakfast Club co-host Charlamagne Tha God called Drake the “biggest rapper in the world.” Shocked by this revelation, Soulja quickly replied, “Draaaaakkkkkkeeee?! That n-gga who got bodied by Pusha T? “Drake?! Y’all n-ggs better stop playing with me in here. Y’all talking about the light-skinned n-gga from [Degrassi]? Stop playing with me like I didn’t teach Drake everything he know.”
The rest is internet history. Revisit it in all its glory below and check out The Life Of Draco on the REVOLT app.
