A pack of pugnacious penguins are on the march in a scene from the upcoming Eiga Zannen na Ikimono Ziten theatrical anime film.

 

It’s time to hear the call of the wild, because a new preview video, a new key visual, and the main cast have all been revealed for Eiga Zannen na Ikimono Ziten (“The Unfortunate Animals Encyclopedia: The Movie”), an upcoming theatrical anime film based on the popular series of children’s books by Tadaaki Imaizumi about the strange and sometimes cringe-worthy lives of creatures within the animal kingdom. The main cast includes:

  • Natsuki Hanae as Leroy.
  • Maaya Uchida as Usao.
  • Hiro Shimono as Usagizaki-senpai.
  • Tsuyoshi Muro as Mogumogu.
  • And Sairi Ito as Gurara.

 

 

Zannen na Ikimono Ziten has previously been adapted into a short form TV anime with direction by Jun Aoki and animation production by Fanworks that broadcasts on NHK E TV. Eiga Zannen na Ikimono Ziten focuses on strange and unfortunate animals that live in three areas: Antarctica, Australia, and the Azumi Basin in Nagano Prefecture, Japan.

In the film, Yuuji Uchiyama writes and directs the Antarctica segment, while Naomi Iwata directs and Yōichi Katō writes the screenplay for the Australia segment, and Kei Yoshimizu directs and Toru Hosokawa writes the screenplay for the Japan (Nagano) segment. Fanworks provides animation production.

 

Eiga Zannen na Ikimono Ziten is scheduled to hit theaters in Japan on July 08, 2022.
