# Sony Interactive Entertainment has over 25 PS5 games in development

Sony Interactive Entertainment has over 25 titles in development for PlayStation 5—nearly half of which are new intellectual property, Sony Interactive Entertainment Worldwide Studios Hermen Hulst told Wired.

“There’s an incredible amount of variety originating from different regions,” Hulst said. “Big, small, different genres.”

Among those titles, few have been announced. Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart from Insomniac Games is due out on June 11. Horizon Forbidden West from Guerrilla Games and the sequel to 2018’s God of War from Sony Interactive Entertainment Santa Monica Studio have been announced for a 2021 release. And Gran Turismo 7 from Polyphony Digital is due out in 2022. Sony Interactive Entertainment also recently announced plans to publish an AAA multiplayer game from Firewalk Studios and an original title from Jade Raymond’s Haven Studios under the PlayStation Studios banner. A The Last of Us remake is also rumored to be in development at Naughty Dog.

According to a Sony Interactive Entertainment spokesperson, from PlayStation 5’s launch in November 2020 through the end of March 2021, users logged 81 percent more time on the console than on PlayStation 4 during its own launch period from 2013 to 2014. Additionally, 11 percent more game units have been sold in PlayStation 5’s first five months compared to PlayStation 4. User gameplay time was also 20 percent higher in March 2021 compared to a year prior.

But PlayStation 5 units remain unobtainable as Sony Group chief financial officer Hiroki Totoki reportedly expects shortages to continue in 2022.

Sony Interactive Entertainment president and CEO Jim Ryan, on the other hand, is more hopeful of a return to normality sometime in 2021.

“We’re working as hard as we can to ameliorate that situation,” Ryan said on the shortages. “We see production ramping up over the summer and certainly into the second half of the year, and we would hope to see some sort of return to normality in terms of the balance between supply and demand during that period.”
