#Sony Aims to Stay Safe with Online-Only PS5 Sales on Launch Day

PS5 launch

If you were looking forward to the tried and true tradition of waiting in a long line for a new console on PlayStation 5 launch day, you'll want to go ahead and change those plans. In an effort to keep gamers, retailers, and staff safe during the COVID-19 pandemic, Sony announced that all launch sales of PS5 will be online-only

That means on November 12 (or November 19, depending on where you live), there won't be any PS5 units available for purchase in physical retail locations. If you already have a pre-order in for pickup, though, you should be able to do so according to the protocols put in place by your local retailer.

This also applies to Japan, where there will be absolutely no in-person sales on release day. Pre-orders are still being honored and, in most cases, will be delivered to buyers. According to Shuhei Yoshida, more stock will be arriving "soon."

While it may be disappointing to see the whole launch camping thing disappear, it's great that Sony is playing this launch as safely as possible.
