A slew of Long Island beaches had to be closed off to incoming visitors within hours of opening Sunday because they had already reached their social-distancing capacity.

As sweltering metro-area temps soared into the 90s, Jones Beach was shut down by 11:30 a.m. and incoming traffic diverted away, the state Parks Department said.

A section of the popular beach, at Field 6, had already reached capacity by 8:30 a.m., the department said.

Robert Moses State Park, which features 5 miles of beaches, also had to be closed off by 8:30 a.m.

New visitors to a bunch of lakes and other beaches, including Orient and Fair Haven, on Long Island had to be turned away by around noon, also.

Increasing humidity is expected to grip the area this week, making real-feel temperatures hit up to 110 degrees at times.
