“The Rising of the Shield Hero Season 2 Releases New Visual, Teases New Character”

The Rising of the Shield Hero has revealed a new visual for its second season as it enters a new story arc. The illustration shows Naofumi and his friends facing off against Kyou Ethnina in the Glass’ World. 

The production team also released a visual highlighting a new character named Kizuna Kazayama, voiced by Miyu Tomita. She joins the main voice cast from the previous season. Kana Hanazawa voiced Ost Hourai in the second season’s first few episodes.

The returning production staff from the first season include Masato Jinbo (Restaurant to Another World Season 2) as director, Keigo Koyanagi as series composer, Masahiro Suwa as character designer, and Kevin Penkin as music composer. Kinema Citrus is handling the animation production again for the second season, with DR Movie assisting them. 

The Rising of the Shield Hero is based on the light novel series written by Aneko Yusagi and illustrated by Seira Minami. The first volume was published by Media Factory on August 22, 2013 with 22 volumes in print as of May 17, 2022. One Peace Books releases the light novels in English for North America.

The first season premiered in January 2019 and ran for 25 episodes until June. Crunchyroll streamed the season as they aired in Japan. They describe the anime as:

Iwatani Naofumi, a run-of-the-mill otaku, finds a book in the library that summons him to another world. He is tasked with joining the sword, spear, and bow as one of the Four Cardinal Heroes and fighting the Waves of Catastrophe as the Shield Hero. Excited by the prospect of a grand adventure, Naofumi sets off with his party. However, merely a few days later, he is betrayed and loses all his money, dignity, and respect. Unable to trust anyone anymore, he employs a slave named Raphtalia and takes on the Waves and the world. But will he really find a way to overturn this desperate situation?
