Six staffers on President Trump’s re-election campaign — all of whom were in Tulsa, Oklahoma, preparing for his massive Saturday night rally there — have tested positive for COVID-19.

All six have been quarantined, Tim Murtaugh, Trump’s campaign spokesman, said in a statement to NBC News.

“No COVID-positive staffers or anyone in immediate contact will be at today’s rally or near attendees and elected officials,” Murtaugh said. The six are members of the campaign’s advance staff.

Oklahoma has seen a sharp increase in coronavirus cases in recent days, eight weeks after the state reopened for business. State officials reported 331 new COVID-19 cases statewide Saturday, bringing its total over the 10,000 mark — to 10,037 — for the first time.

Local health officials in Tulsa have opposed Trump’s decision to hold the rally in their city while the coronavirus pandemic continues. But the state supreme court ruled Friday that the huge event — which is expected to bring 100,000 people to Tulsa’s streets — can go ahead as planned.
