1951 Giants

Trailing first-place Brooklyn by 13 games on Aug. 11, the Giants closed out the regular season on a 39-8 run to tie the Dodgers and force a three-game playoff. After the two teams split the first two games, the Giants hosted Brooklyn at the Polo Grounds for the final game, which the Giants won on Bobby Thomson’s walk-off homer off Ralph Branca in the bottom of the ninth to advance to the World Series.

Mets’ 10-run inning to beat the Braves in 2000

The Mets were down 8-1 heading into the bottom of the eighth inning on June 30, which was also Fireworks Night at Shea Stadium. Then the Mets scored 10 runs — nine of them with two outs — to come back and beat the Braves, 11-8, in front of 52,831. After Edgardo Alfonzo delivered a two-run single to tie the game, Mike Piazza hit a three-run, game-winning homer.

1996 Yankees in the World Series

In the Yankees’ first World Series appearance since 1981, they lost the first two games to Atlanta, both in The Bronx. With the series shifted to Atlanta, Joe Torre told George Steinbrenner the Yankees would win the next four games — and they did. It started with a 5-2 victory in Game 3 before the Yankees tied the series with the help of Jim Leyritz’s three-run homer in Game 4. The Yankees went on to win the next two, clinching the title at the Stadium in Game 6.

1986 Mets in NLCS Game 6

The Mets were down 3-0 to the Astros heading into the top of the ninth, but scored three runs to extend the game. After the teams traded runs in the 14th, the Mets went ahead for good two innings later when they scored three runs before Jesse Orosco allowed a pair of runs in the bottom of the inning. Orosco struck out Kevin Bass with the tying run on second base to propel the Mets to the World Series, where they also famously came back to beat the Red Sox.

Knicks’ 19-0 run to beat the Bucks in 1972

On Nov. 18, 1972, the Knicks trailed Milwaukee by as many as 20 points before pulling off a stunning comeback at Madison Square Garden. Milwaukee, with Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and Oscar Robertson, won the title in 1971 and seemed on its way to an easy victory before the Knicks clawed their way back into the game. Walt Frazier hit a pair of free throws to bring the Knicks to within a point with 47 seconds to go. Milwaukee’s Lucius Allen then missed two free throws and Earl Monroe hit jumper to give the Knicks the lead. Jabbar missed a rushed shot and the Knicks won, 87-86.

Jets beat Dolphins on Monday Night Miracle

On Oct. 23, 2000, Miami took a 30-7 lead on the Jets in the third quarter at Giants Stadium. But the Jets rallied to tie the game at 30-30 on a Wayne Chrebet touchdown from Vinny Testaverde with 3:55 left in the fourth. Miami went ahead again before the Jets forced overtime thanks to a 3-yard TD reception by Jumbo Elliott. The Jets won it, 40-37, on John Hall’s 40-yard field goal in OT.
