A man was fatally shot on a Staten Island street in broad daylight late Wednesday morning, according to police and fire officials.

The 35-year-old man was blasted in the chest at the intersection of Barker Street and Castleton Avenue in Port Richmond just before 11:30 a.m., authorities said.

He was taken to Richmond University Medical Center, where he died at 12:07 p.m., police said.

The circumstances of the shooting were not immediately clear.

Police are looking for a male suspect wearing a red shirt and white shorts, who took off in a green Acura with Pennsylvania plates.

Andrea Corsetti, 35, told the Post she was running errands around the corner when she heard a single shot.

“I heard a single pop, which I thought was a firecracker,” Corsetti said. “But then, like a minute later I saw all these police cars rushing down the street and I said, ‘OK, somebody’s been shot.’ I came around the corner to take a look and I could see EMTs loading the guy onto an ambulance. He wasn’t in good shape. There was a lot of blood.”

“I always considered this a pretty safe neighborhood,” she added. “But when you read about the rise in crime all over the city, it’s wishful thinking to think crime’s not gonna find its way into even the good neighborhoods.”

The shooting comes amid a recent spike in gunplay across the city.
