#Capitol Report: Toyota stops donations to election-objector Republicans after backlash

Changing its stance after a public backlash, Toyota Motor Corp. on Thursday said its political action committee would no longer give money to 147 congressional Republicans who voted against certifying Joe Biden as the winner of the 2020 presidential election.

“We understand that the PAC decision to support select members of Congress who contested the results troubled some stakeholders,” the Japanese auto maker said in a statement.

“We are actively listening to our stakeholders and, at this time, we have decided to stop contributing to those members of Congress who contested the certification of certain states in the 2020 election.”

Earlier Thursday, the Lincoln Project, a super PAC known for opposing Donald Trump and his allies, rolled out an ad attacking Toyota

for its donations.

“If they don’t reconsider where they send their money, Americans will reconsider where we send ours,” says a narrator during the ad.

The company also faced calls for a boycott last week following a report that highlighted its contributions to election-objector Republicans.
