Two public employees in Ventura County, California — one who works with the Sheriff’s Office and another formally employed by the district attorney — were caught on camera destroying a Black Lives Matter sign, officials said.

Darrin Stone, an employee of the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office since 2005, could be seen on surveillance video twice as he uses a knife to shred a sign placed on a fence in Thousand Oaks, according to a report in the Thousand Oaks Acorn.

“I’m deeply disappointed that one of our employees involved himself in this type of illegal activity,” Sheriff Bill Ayub said in a statement.

Stone, 60, took a knife to the sign on June 13 and June 19. He was placed on administrative leave by the sheriff’s office due to the incident.

Craig Anderson, an investigative assistant at the Ventura County district attorney’s office, was also caught on the camera defacing the sign, the report said.

Anderson, 59, has resigned from the district attorney’s office, but it was not clear when exactly that took place.

A third suspect, 58-year-old Jeffrey Moore, spray-painted the sign on June 11, but was found easily because his company name and phone number were “prominently displayed on his vehicle,” cops said.

The 19-year-old college student who hung the sign, Maxwell Meyers, put up the camera in case anyone attempted to destroy the tarp with the letters “BLM” festooned across it.

When the image of Stone was posted on social media, a sheriff’s deputy recognized him right away.
