#Kentucky town rallies to save 80-year-old Mother Goose landmark

Mother Goose has a head that’s loose.

Townspeople of Hazard, Kentucky, are raising money to save the beloved local landmark with a GoFundMe page and new T-shirts, according to reports.

The Mother Goose neck and head has sat above a domed building in the Kentucky hill town for 80 years. It was shifted off its foundation by strong winds last week, and then blew over on Wednesday.

The landmark has been featured on HGTV and PBS, according to the GoFundMe page.

“People from all over the world have come here to take pictures of it,” local resident Phil Neace boasted to the Associated Press.

The GoFundMe page has raised more than $7,200 as of Saturday afternoon. Local business owner Joey McKenney of Appalachian Apparel Company has offered to donate proceeds from the sale of a new T-shirt he’s produced that read “Save the Goose!” in antique newsprint.

McKenney told local radio station WYMT on Friday that he has already received orders from 11 different states.

Sounds like Mother Goose isn’t cooked yet.
