#Sen. Kelly Loeffler tests negative for coronavirus

Georgia Sen. Kelly Loeffler’s tested negative for the coronavirus Sunday came — but she’ll continue to quarantine at least until she gets another negative result, a campaign spokesman said.

“Out of an abundance of caution, [Loeffler] will continue to self-isolate and be retested again to hopefully receive consecutive negative test results,” Stephen Lawson said in a statement.

“We will share those results as they are made available.”

The most recent test results come after the Republican lawmaker took a rapid COVID-19 test Friday evening that came back positive. She had attended events with Vice President Mike Pence earlier that day. But a test Saturday came back inconclusive.

The senator doesn’t have COVID-19 symptoms and is following CDC guidelines both to isolate and inform people with whom she had direct contact, her campaign had previously said.

Loeffler and fellow GOP Sen. David Perdue are battling Democratic challengers in high-stakes runoff elections that could determine which party takes control of the Senate in January.

Loeffler is facing-off against Democrat Raphael Warnock in the heated Jan. 5 race, while Perdue is running against Jon Ossoff.
