“#Search warrant claims Andrew Brown Jr. was dealing drugs from his house”
The details of a search warrant that led to the death of a North Carolina man came to light on Monday night as the city braced for the release of bodycam footage of the fatal encounter.
The warrant claimed that a confidential informant had purchased cocaine, heroin and methamphetamine from Andrew Brown Jr. and the alleged dealer may have been storing drugs at his Elizabeth City, N.C. home when police killed him during the raid.
The warrant is dated April 20 and states that a County narcotics officer spoke to a confidential source who claimed to have purchased the drugs from Brown multiple times over the course of a year.
It also states that Brown’s home in Elizabeth City “is being used to store, package and distribute narcotics, namely ‘crack’ cocaine” and lists two vehicles which were parked outside the home.
A lawyer for Brown’s family, Benjamin Crump, argued that authorities were trying to release negative information about Brown while shielding themselves by holding back the police bodycam footage.
Earlier on Monday, Brown’s family was shown the footage of his death for the first time and called the shooting “an execution.”
The mayor of Elizabeth City declared a state of emergency in anticipation of the release of the bodycam footage to the public.
