A Portland woman devised a savvy way to tell her parents about her current job.
A woman named Lex created a lengthy PowerPoint presentation to drop the news to her family that she’s working as a stripper, as seen in a viral TikTok clip posted by her sister, Sami.
The video showed Lex scrolling through her presentation as her mom and dad sat and watched intently.
“Today I reveal to you a secret,” she began her impassioned speech.
“Any guesses you have, you will be wrong. I’m telling you simply because I want the people I love and trust the most to know what’s going on in my life and to have the joy of sharing my journey with you.”
Lex shared several slides in which she works to end the stigma associated with working in a jiggle joint before spilling the details.
“What this secret does mean: I’m talented, I’m cool, I’m powerful,” she said. “What this secret does not mean: I’m pregnant or in danger.”
She then dropped the bomb: “I’m a stripper! As in I pole dance at a strip club and I love it!”
Lex explained, “First, you might be thinking, “Why? What’s the point? Well, it’s a sex-positive environment and I can express myself safely. It’s a performance… theatrics if you will.”
One of the “FAQs” was, “How am I staying safe?” To which she answered, “‘Well you see, there’s full anonymity in this club environment. [The] culture of strip clubs in Portland is very much sex-positive and very safe.”
She added, “There’s not like drugs or shady business practices that are commonplace.”
Lex also reassured her folks that she’s not a part of any other sex work. All she “does is dance and chat with people” whenever she’s in the club. Another question pertained to the idea of money, specifically if she pays her taxes and if there is “under-the-table income.” Lex’s response: “No, I do pay my taxes!”
“[It is] one of the funnest jobs I’ve ever had. And I don’t want you to worry and that why I have the FAQs. There’s no reason why I didn’t tell you, I just didn’t really get around to it,” she concluded.
Lex’s mother had nothing but kind words of support for her daughter. “I really appreciate you being forthright and sharing your life with us, and I’m glad you are powerful,” Lex’s mother said.
