“#’Chinese Zodiac Killer’ sends letters to Albany TV stations”
A letter claiming to be from the “Chinese Zodiac Killer” has been sent to several television stations in Albany.
The outlets in upstate New York notified authorities on Wednesday and were instructed by FBI investigators to leave any future letters unopened to preserve possible forensic evidence, according to The Times Union.
Federal officials at the Albany field office did not immediately respond to an inquiry from The Post about the case.
The original Zodiac Killer murdered five known victims in and around San Francisco in the late 1960s after sending a series of cryptic letters to media outlets, threatening violence if they were not published. The case remained “open and unsolved,” the FBI said earlier this year, even as a group of former law enforcement officers claimed to have identified the serial killer — a man who died in 2018.
New York’s capital city had a connection to the original killing spree, the newspaper reported.

Victim Elizabeth Ferrin reportedly once lived in Albany with her husband, who worked at the paper. An Albany newspaper editor named Richard Gaikowski was also once considered a suspect, the paper reported. He died in 2004, according to the outlet.
A person claiming to be the infamous killer had sent a threatening letter to The Times Union in 1973 threatening violence in the city, the paper reported.
The menacing missive reportedly read in part:
“YOU Were WRONG I AM NOT DEAD OR IN THE HOSPITAL I AM ALIVE AND WELL AND IM GOING TO START KILLING AGAIN Below is the NAME AND LOCATION OF MY NEXT VICTIM But you had Better hurry because I’m going to kill her August 10th at 5 P.M. when the shifts change. ALBANY is A nice Town.”
It was unclear which local stations received the threatening letters, or what they said.
The Post’s requests for comment to Albany’s network affiliates and 24-hour news channel were not immediately returned.
