#Sister Act 3 Lands Tim Federle To Direct, Madhuri Shekar To Write

The video above features Deloris and the sisters singing a church-ified version of “I Will Follow Him,” the hit made famous by Peggy Little March in 1963. Said video was uploaded to YouTube in 2008 and has over 68 million views, so obviously there are people out there who remember “Sister Act” and its songs and want to see it and hear them again.

The plot of the first film involved Deloris, a lounge singer, entering a convent under the witness protection program. It’s one of those high concepts that, in the wrong hands, might sound funny on paper only. Yet Goldberg and company really made it work, delivering a comedy that overflowed with music and joy.

Goldberg just recently struck a new 4-year deal to remain on as a co-host of the daytime talk show “The View,” but somewhere in there she’ll be filming “Sister Act 3.” Deadline notes that Federle was chosen for the directing gig in part because of his success in reviving another IP with the GLAAD-award winning “High School Musical: The Musical: The Series.” He has another musical comedy, “Better Nate Than Ever,” starring Lisa Kudrow, headed for Disney+, which is tracking well with studio executives.

“Sister Act” and “Sister Act 2: Back in the Habit” are now streaming on Disney+, so you might as well go ahead and make this a “Sister Act” weekend. We’ll keep you posted on the production of “Sister Act 3.”
