“#Rochester releases body cam footage from fatal police shooting”
Officials in Rochester Saturday released police body-cam footage of a deadly shooting involving two officers during a routine traffic check.
The video begins with the officers stopping behind a car parked on a dark residential street early Friday.
A woman, who appears drunk, is standing on the side of the road, says she is not feeling well and tells officers she’s coming from her “house.”
The police say they are investigating “an incident” involving another vehicle, and ask the occupants of the stopped car where they are going.
A man in the front passenger seat tells the officers they were trying to take the woman to the hospital, and ask the woman if she needs an ambulance. The woman says in the clip that she suffers from “anxiety,” and is about to “puke” in the car.
As the cops try to speak to the man in the back passenger seat, and attempt to open the door, the cracks of gunfire can be heard.
“Show us your hands!”
One of the police officers calls out and says, “He’s still moving. He has a gun.”
The two officers fired their weapons — at least nine shots — according to a report.
“We got a passenger in the front not hit,” says one of the officers to a dispatcher. “We have a suspect in the rear back seat, appears to be hit, moving around, has a gun.”
The victim, identified only as a white man in his 20s, was killed, while the other man in the vehicle, who was sitting in the passenger seat, was not hurt. It’s unclear from the video who was driving the car.
Rochester Police Chief Cynthia Herriott-Sullivan said Friday the two officers who fired their weapons are currently on administrative leave until an internal investigation is completed.
“We will comply fully with the Attorney General’s investigation. RPD and the AG’s office are working diligently to give the community the information that they are seeking and I assure you that we will continue to demand the answers that we all deserve,” said Rochester Mayor Lovely Warren in a statement Friday.
