#Rob Gronkowski says he and Tom Brady didn’t hatch Buccaneers reunion plan

The stars simply aligned for Tom Brady and Rob Gronkowski’s Tampa Bay reunion, according to the former Patriots tight end.

Gronkowski, who came out of retirement in April and was traded to the Buccaneers, recently said on “Tiki and Tierney” that he and Brady never orchestrated a master plan to play together in Florida.

“No, no that actually was really never the case,” Gronkowski said. “As a player, you always want to see what it’s like somewhere else. [I] thought of that before definitely after playing nine years in the NFL and also thought about it when I came out of retirement. This is an opportunity to go see what it’s like somewhere else, to go see what it’s like in the NFL on another squad.”

Gronkowski said that while he “loved [his] time in New England,” a different opportunity presented itself.

“It was another opportunity that presented. But no, we never really ever talked about that before. It kind of just happened. [With] my retirement and him hitting free agency, it kind of just lined up like that,” the five-time Pro Bowler said.

In March, Brady announced he was joining the Buccaneers after 20 seasons in New England. Gronkowski landed in Tampa Bay a month later following nine seasons with the Patriots.

Earlier this year, Gronkowski revealed the seeds for an NFL comeback had been planting during a game of catch with Brady.

“We rarely talked about what his decision was going to be or where I’m at. But we did talk about … I’m kind of getting that fire underneath me again. I told him I’m definitely interested in the decision you make and … even if you go back to the Patriots … there’s a possible chance I will definitely love to reconnect,” Gronkowski said.

Gronkowski has been physically preparing for his second NFL act, with Brady calling out “#skinnygronk” last month.
