#RNC officially moves convention to Jacksonville, Florida

The Republican National Committee said Thursday that Jacksonville, Florida will be the site of their 2020 convention after backing out of Charlotte, North Carolina over coronavirus restrictions.

RNC chairwoman Ronna McDaniel said that the decision was made after Charlotte, the original host of this summer’s convention, balked at promising Trump an event free from social distancing measures.

“We are thrilled to hold @realDonaldTrump’s acceptance of the Republican nomination in the great city of Jacksonville!” McDaniel tweeted. “Not only is Florida his home state, it is crucial to victory.”

Trump changed his home address from Manhattan to Palm Beach, Fla. last year.

The RNC has spent the last week scouting locations after Gov. Roy Cooper, D-N.C., rejected Trump’s demand that the convention be allowed to take place Aug. 24-27 without the coronavirus measures.

“The governor doesn’t want to give an inch, and what he’s doing is losing hundreds of millions of dollars for his state,” Trump said Wednesday at the White House.

He told reporters that many states have volunteered to host, including Texas, Georgia and Florida.

“I think we’re going to probably end up giving you an announcement pretty soon.”
