The hit cartoon «Rick and Morty» is coming out as an anime soon…
«Rick and Morty» is an American sci-fi cartoon with a large fan base and runs on Cartoon Network’s Adult Swim programming block. The adventure about the mad scientist Rick Sanchez and his grandson Morty Smith already has 51 episodes in 5 seasons; another 50 episodes have already been announced.
The series has not only series episodes, but also dozens of short films. And so far 5 of these short films have been Japanese-made anime interpretations of the series material. Now the program provider Adult Swim confirmedthat a series entitled «Rick and Morty: The Anime» is produced.
Two of the 5 short films («Rick and Morty vs. Genocider», «Summer Meets God (Rick Meets Evil)») were directed by Takashi Sano («Tower of God»), where he also wrote the directing led. Sano was now also in charge of directing the 10 part anime series at Telecom Animation Film (“Lupin III.”-Franchise, “Orange”). Telecom Animation has already animated Sano’s two short films from 2020 and 2021. The Japanese series will not be a direct adaptation of the cartoon, but will be an original work, while retaining plots and themes from the original.
The anime series will too on Adult Swim on US television and also on streaming provider HBO Max shown. Warner Bros. distributes the cartoon in German-speaking countries. The US series premiered on television on Warner TV Comedy (formerly TNT Comedy). The cartoon is also available on DVD, Blu-ray and video-on-demand platforms. It is not known at this time whether the anime series will also be shown on Warner TV Comedy.

The Smith family consists of parents Beth and Jerry, 17-year-old Summer and 14-year-old Morty. The simple and insecure Jerry sees Rick as a bad influence for Morty, so there are often conflicts in the already fragile marriage to Beth, who is dissatisfied with her current living situation.
