The 30-year-old driver was traveling down Fairview Avenue toward Wadsworth Terrace in Fort George around 4:30 a.m. when he collided with the pole, flinging himself and his male passenger from the vehicle, police said.
The driver suffered severe head trauma, and his passenger, 32, hurt his left ankle, cops said.
Both men were taken to NewYork-Presbyterian/Columbia-University Medical Center, where the driver is in critical condition, according to officials.
The company, which began renting scooters to the public in a service similar to Citi Bike in May 2019, has been plagued by user injuries and lawsuits in recent months.
“The rapidly expanding use of the Revel scooter, a two-person electric scooter with maximum speeds of 43 mph (throttled to 30 mph in NYC), has been associated with a large uptick in visits to our emergency department in the last month,” Angelo Mascia, DO, and Daniel G. Murphy, MD, who work in the Department of Emergency Medicine at St. Barnabas Hospital in The Bronx, told The Post this month.
