The Red Sox’s pitching rotation has the second-worst ERA in the majors, but have the elements on Tuesday that should push things in the right direction.

Nathan Eovaldi, riddled by injuries in 2019, has delivered two solid starts for Boston this season, pitching to a 2.45 ERA through 11 innings.

His former team, the Tampa Bay Rays, will counter with Charlie Morton, who has been the opposite of Eovaldi and regressed in 2020. In two starts, Morton has given up eight runs in nine innings, serving up a home run in each start, both of which the Rays lost.

The Red Sox also back up Eovaldi with a team that was sixth in the league in batting at .256 through Sunday, while the Rays were 23rd at .213. The Rays have relied on walks to kick-start their offense, but Eovaldi has walked only two batters thus far.

Two of Boston’s three wins this season have come with Eovaldi on the mound. He should allow the Red Sox to hand the Rays their sixth straight loss.

The play: Red Sox, 135.
