“Real-Life BLUELOCK Soccer Tournament Coming From Crunchyroll, Saturdays Football and LA Galaxy”

If you’ve been watching BLUELOCK, then you know it’s more than just a soccer anime. Pitting Japan’s top potential players against one another, the series aims to find the perfect striker who can bring Japan to the World Cup — and win. Thanks to a new partnership between Crunchyroll, Saturdays Football and LA Galaxy, the BLUELOCK is real!

Announced today, Crunchyroll is teaming up with Saturdays Football and the LA Galaxy Soccer Club for an official soccer tournament (that YOU can play in!) in Los Angeles on Saturday, March 25, 2023 at 11 a.m. PT, all in celebration of the simulcast finale of BLUELOCK. A second tournament will be scheduled for Dallas at a later date.

The tournament will take place at the new Galaxy Park complex at the Dignity Health Sports Park campus south of Los Angeles. Players will face off in high stakes 3 vs. 3 “King of the Court” matches across multiple fields in 90 minutes. At the end of that time, the four teams at the top will move on to a semifinal, with the winners playing for it all in a final match.

Want to play in the Los Angeles BLUELOCK soccer tournament in real life? Entry into the event is free, but you’ll need to RSVP through the official Eventbrite link.

The winning team will receive a special BLUELOCK prize pack featuring swag, including an exclusive Crunchyroll x Saturdays Football x LA Galaxy scarf! Everyone who participates will get a code to check out BLUELOCK and other anime on Crunchyroll.

Based on the award-winning manga by Muneyuki Kaneshiro and Yusuke Nomura, BLUELOCK is being directed by Tetsuaki Watanabe (Haikyu!! episode director) and assistant-directed by Shunsuke Ishikawa (Sword Art Online Alicization episode director) at studio eightbit (That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime) for a 2022 release.

Kodansha, who publishes the manga’s official English version, describes the series as:

After a disastrous defeat at the 2018 World Cup, Japan’s team struggles to regroup. But what’s missing? An absolute Ace Striker, who can guide them to the win. The Japan Football Union is hell-bent on creating a striker who hungers for goals and thirsts for victory, and who can be the decisive instrument in turning around a losing match…and to do so, they’ve gathered 300 of Japan’s best and brightest youth players.

Who will emerge to lead the team…and will they be able to out-muscle and out-ego everyone who stands in their way?
