It’s a bird, it’s a plane, it’s a…delay?

Thursday’s Red Sox-Rays game at Fenway Park was paused when a drone flew near the right field bleachers.

In the top of the third inning, players and umpires were forced to walk off the field and to the dugouts, waiting for the drone to fly off.

According to the Boston Globe, the Boston Police were able to find the culprit — a nearby 16-year-old — and allowed the Red Sox to get back to their 17-8 loss, the last in a four-game sweep.

“That’s a new situation,” Rays shortstop Willy Adames said. “I’ve never seen that before. You just don’t know what to do.”

The incident marks the second time in as many years that a Red Sox game was interrupted by a drone. In April 2019, a juvenile flew one over Fenway during a game against the Blue Jays.

Just last week, a game between the Twins and Pirates in Minnesota was delayed for nine minutes as another drone flew over Target Field.
