#Rashida Tlaib joins progressive pushback, refuses to endorse Joe Biden

“Squad” member Rep. Rashida Tlaib on Monday said she will not endorse Democratic nominee Joe Biden — just hours after a co-chair of Bernie Sanders’ presidential campaign likened voting for Biden to eating “a bowl of s–t.”

In an interview with Newsweek on Monday, Tlaib, a Democratic representative from Michigan and Sanders acolyte, said she was focused on delivering the battleground state for Biden but will not endorse him because it will supposedly cause arguments with constituents in her district where she is facing a tough primary challenge.

“Residents come up to me and say, ‘Rashida, I don’t know. I hear Joe Biden this, Joe Biden that.’ I say, ‘Listen, do we need another four years of Trump? No. Then what I need you to do is go out there and focus on that,’” the Muslim congresswoman said.

“If the ultimate goal is to get rid of Donald Trump, that doesn’t have to involve me actually endorsing Biden,” she continued.

“My constituents don’t need to be bogged down in, ‘Is he the best candidate?’ That’s not what you have to convince my residents. They need to come out in droves and be inspired by something. And that is going to be a vote against Donald Trump.”

Fellow “Squad” members Reps. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Ilhan Omar have begrudgingly announced they will vote for Biden but Ayanna Pressley, an Elizabeth Warren supporter, has not.

As a historically centrist Biden tries to make peace with the increasingly noisy left flank of the Democratic Party, hundreds of Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) delegates are also vowing to vote against the party’s platform if it doesn’t include the socialist’s signature “Medicare For All” policy.

The petition started by Sanders delegates in Nevada has reportedly been signed by more than 500 people, according to a Fox News report, and sets the stage for a huge clash at the Democratic National Convention in just three weeks.

“The Democratic Party and their Platform Committee process has failed, to date, to incorporate a clear and progressive platform plank for Medicare-For-All for adoption by the 2020 National Convention,” the petition reads.

According to the Fox report, Biden has 2,632 delegates, while Sanders has 1,076 — meaning that half of the progressive senator’s delegates are threatening to revolt.

A vote on the Democratic Party’s platform by the committee’s approximately 4,000 delegates will take place remotely just days before the Milwaukee convention.

Biden has bent over backwards to accommodate Sanders and other socialist democrats like Bronx-born AOC, bringing them in as advisors and consulting them on policy in a bid to win their support and base of energized, young voters.

Last month, the 77-year-old unveiled a $2 trillion energy plan with a heavy focus on the Green New Deal agenda being peddled by Ocasio-Cortez, but his refusal to support the “defund the police” movement has drawn fire from progressives who say he’s out of touch.
