#Rangers interview Rick Tocchet for head-coach job

Rick Tocchet interviewed for the Rangers vacant head-coaching job Tuesday, according to NHL Network.

The Post’s Larry Brooks reported last week that the Blueshirts and new president-general manager Chris Drury were planning to meet with the 57-year-old Tocchet, who was fired by the Arizona Coyotes after four seasons with the team.

The Coyotes were 125-131-34 record under Tocchet, and missed the playoffs this season after posting a 24-26-6 record. Arizona reached the postseason last year, but lost in the first round to Colorado after defeating Nashville in the qualifying round under the Edmonton bubble.

Tocchet, who also coached the Tampa Bay Lightning for two seasons (2008-2010) has a 178-200-60 record in his six seasons behind an NHL bench.

The Rangers — who are looking for someone who has had previous head-coaching experience — already interviewed Gerard Gallant, who is considered to be a leading contender for the job.

Gallant, also 57, has compiled a 270-216-55 career record behind the bench of the Blue Jackets, Panthers and Golden Knights, which was his last stop.

The Rangers could have some competition for Tocchet, who will interview with the Sabres on Thursday and with the Blue Jackets at some point this week, according to NHL Network.

Tocchet won the Stanley Cup in 1992 as a power winger with the Penguins before winning back-to-back Cups with Pittsburgh in 2016 and 2017 as one of Mike Sullivan’s assistants.

The Rangers fired David Quinn on May 12, soon after they ousted team president John Davidson and general manager Jeff Gorton.
