The Patriots shocked the NFL Sunday when they signed veteran quarterback Cam Newton to their pool of possible successors to Tom Brady, and the four-time Super Bowl MVP showed his support.

After the NFL’s official Instagram announced that New England had signed Newton to a one-year deal, Brady tagged Under Armour, which both quarterbacks have exclusive clothing and shoe lines for, in a comment and added two ‘100’ emojis.

“@underarmour QBs,” Brady wrote.

The 42-year-old Brady signed a two-year, $50 million deal with the Buccaneers in March after 20 years in New England. It was anticipated that the Patriots’ 2019 fourth-round pick Jarrett Stidham would be Brady’s successor, with Brian Hoyer serving as backup. But having Newton in the mix should shake up the depth chart.

Newton, 31, played the first nine years of his NFL career with the Carolina Panthers, who drafted him first overall in 2011. He earned three Pro Bowl nods and was the league Most Valuable Player and Offensive Player of the Year in 2015.

But a slew of injuries prevented Newton from performing at the level he did during his Pro Bowl seasons. On March 26, the Panthers signed former Saints QB Teddy Bridgewater to a three-year deal. Just days earlier, the organization gave Newton permission to seek a trade before ultimately releasing him.
