#Rachel Maddow will move MSNBC show to weekly format: report

MSNBC’s star anchor Rachel Maddow has reportedly renewed her contract with the cable news network — but the multi-year deal will see her five-day-a-week show transition into a weekly show.

“The Rachel Maddow Show” will continue airing weeknights at 9pm ET for the time being, but sometime next year Maddow will shift gears to “more of a weekly format,” CNN reported, citing two sources with knowledge of the deal.

Maddow, who reportedly earns $7 million a year, will pull back from her daily program to focus on other projects, the sources said. She has hosted “The Rachel Maddow Show” since 2008.

However, CNN noted that nothing is set in stone, with one source saying that “her schedule isn’t changing.”

The potential change in programming of her show comes after The Daily Beast reported earlier this month that Maddow, 48, was “seriously considering leaving the network when her contract ends early next year.”

The veteran broadcaster is said to be interested in streaming and podcasting, which would allow more time for her personal life in the absence of rigorous nightly television deadlines, The Beast reported.

The new contract keeps Maddow at NBCUniversal while giving her a broader mandate to pursue projects such as film and TV series as well as other ventures, The Wall Street Journal reported.

The contract will see Maddow start her own production company that will bring its projects to NBCUniversal first, the Journal reported, citing one source.

The projects will likely include some content for Peacock, NBC’s streaming service, one source told the Journal.

NBCUniversal News Group Chairman Cesar Conde has emphasized to reporters, editors and executives throughout the company that growing Peacock is a priority.

Insider, which first reported Maddow’s contract renewal, said that she hired super-agent and CEO of Endeavor, the holding company of talent agency WME, Ari Emanuel to negotiate the deal.

Endeavor president Mark Shapiro, who was also involved in negotiations, told Insider that Maddow “is staying home where she belongs with a much broader deal at NBCUniversal and couldn’t be happier.”

Shapiro declined to say how much Maddow would be paid, but added that she would have “more scheduling flexibility.”

Representatives for NBCUniversal did not return The Post’s request for comment.
