#New York COVID positivity rate hits lowest level since October

New York’s coronavirus positivity rate has hit a low not seen since before Halloween.

The statewide rate, when measured on a seven-day average, sunk to 1.5 percent Friday, the lowest since Oct. 28, Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced Saturday. The rate in New York City was 1.36 percent.

The daily statewide positivity rate Friday was even lower at 1.29 percent.

The number of people hospitalized with COVID-19 dropped to 2,178 Friday, the lowest since Nov. 16 and a reduction of 551 during the past week, Cuomo said.

There were 32 COVID-19 deaths in the state Friday including 15 among New York City residents.

The number of adults statewide receiving at least one shot of the COVID-19 vaccine hit 60 percent Saturday with 16,564,716 doses administered. Nearly half of adults — 47.8 percent — have completed their vaccine regimen.

As of about noon Saturday, 168,958 jabs had been given out across the state in the last 24 hours, and more than 1 million doses in the past seven days, Cuomo said.
