#Protester who went viral when cop shoved her once sued high school for bullying

The woman who went viral after being shoved to the ground by a now-suspended NYPD cop had previously sued a Long Island school for turning a blind eye to bullying, court papers show.

Dounya Zayer, 20, sued East Islip High School, campus officials and students in 2016 — alleging that in 2014 and 2015 she endured sometimes violent bullying because she is Muslim and the school ignored her complaints. The case is still pending.

Zayer charged that on March 4, 2015, she “was viciously attacked” by another student when he punched and kicked her, threw her against a vending machine and then onto the floor where she collided with a table and chairs and was knocked unconscious.

A bystander student videotaped the incident and then sent it to the “entire student body,” court papers filed in Suffolk County allege.

But that wasn’t the first or last time Zayer was targeted by other high-schoolers, she alleged.

She claims she was mentioned on an “EI Ugly B—-s” Instagram account, several other students threatened to beat her up on more than one occasion, she had a water bottle thrown at her head and was called a “terrorist,” the court filings say.

All the while, school officials — who were well aware of her ongoing torment — failed to intervene and even accused her of faking an undiagnosed disorder that caused her to cough up blood, her suit alleges.

They also accused her of provoking the bullying, the court papers allege.

For instance on May 13, 2015, when she was coughing up blood, the principal allegedly accused her of faking it by using Robitussin and told her to “stop faking it” in front of other students — despite the fact that she was taken to the hospital in an ambulance, the suit says.

Her gymnastics coach allegedly blamed her for provoking bullying in front of other members, who then ostracized her, the court documents say.

From Oct. 1 2014 through June 19, 2015 Zayer was “ostracized from the gymnastic team and most of the student body” the court papers say. And because of it, on June 19 she was forced to leave the school.

Gerald Smith, a lawyer for East Islip High School and its employees, told The Post, “the District has no comment at this time as it is still a matter of ongoing litigation.”

Meanwhile, the officer accused of shoving Zayer in the recent May 29 incident during the George Floyd protests, was suspended. The officer was heard calling her a “stupid b—h” before shoving her to the pavement.

The next day from a hospital bed Zayer — who had a concussion — warned protesters on Twitter to be careful of the cops.

“I beg everyone who is going back out tonight to protest to be careful,” Zayer said. “These police want to make an example out of us. They want to prove that they can hurt us and get away with it. Prove them wrong,”

Video of the moment has gone viral with over 14 million views as of Monday.

Zayer has since defended herself against accusations that she first spit in the officer’s face.

“I did NOT spit in this officers face. I was wearing a face mask. He told me to get out of the street and then immediately threw me out of the way,” Zayer wrote in a tweet.

She has not been charged with any crime.

The officer was expected to be arrested Tuesday, police sources have said.
