With the holidays over, it’s time to turn to storage for all those holiday items that you need year after year. Wrapping paper is often a tough one to store, but a few easy hacks can make storage a total breeze!

Because of the odd shape of wrapping paper rolls, plus the need to keep it safe from house pests (including curious pets!) and just getting dinged up and dusty, wrapping paper needs special storage consideration when it comes to proper storage. Fortunately, there are plenty of affordable options you can try, from specially-designed containers to easy hacks using things you already have.

Wrapping Paper Organizer Box

To keep several rolls of wrapping paper well organized (and safe from any house pests), consider an organizer box like the ZOBER Premium Wrap Organizer. It’s slim enough to be stored out of the way and under the bed or other furniture, but spacious enough to hold between 18 and 24 rolls of wrapping paper.

It’s not just a storage solution for wrapping paper, either. The box includes inner pockets and compartments to store ribbons, cards and tags, small gift bags, and other items you might need for gift wrapping. For all-in-one storage, you can’t beat a multipurpose box like this.

Clear Storage Bag

A simple clear storage bag can keep all your rolls of wrapping paper together and safely stored until they’re needed again. It’s simple and effective to use something like the ZOBER Christmas Wrapping Paper Storage Bag. This particular option is a duffel-bag style storage bag, with a rounded shape that keeps wrapping paper rolls neat without squishing them.

Made from clear plastic, this storage bag allows you to clearly see what wrapping paper you already have while protecting it and keeping it all in one place. It comes with two sturdy handles for moving, and it can be stored upright or lying flat, depending on your space options.

Here’s a pro-tip from our Editor in Chief, Jason, who happens to own this particular storage bag: as you use up rolls put the bare cardboard tubes into the center of the container. This not only helps the bag keep its full and sturdy shape but pushes the unused rolls (that you actually want to see) out towards the edges of the bag. When you buy new rolls of wrapping paper, you can simply recycle the filler “empties.”

Over-the-Door Hanging Organizer

If you only have a handful of wrapping paper tubes left over but don’t want to get rid of them, consider a more creative solution. All you need is a common hanging organizer (and a door to hang it on) for an easy storage hack. Simply take a mesh over-the-door shoe organizer and cut out the bottoms of the pockets until you have enough continuous vertical space to slide a roll of wrapping paper down through a few rows. Just be sure to leave the bottom pocket intact to support the bottom of the roll.

Since wrapping paper rolls can be fairly long, look for a hanging organizer that’s tall enough to fit any size of roll. The Amazon Basics 20-Pocket Over-the-Door Shoe Organizer is a great choice for this purpose. At 64 inches tall, it’s tall enough to store even longer rolls of wrapping paper—and maybe have a few pockets left over to store bows or gift tags.

Laundry Hamper

Yep, you read that right! You can use a laundry hamper as an effective way to keep wrapping paper tidy all year long. The trick is to find a hamper that is sturdily built, with solid sides rather than a “basket” style, and on wheels to keep it elevated off the floor.

Look for a hamper like the Chrislley 90L Rolling Laundry Hamper. It has plenty of space to prop up several rolls of wrapping paper (or to throw spools of ribbon or packs of tissue paper in alongside them). This particular model even has a few pockets on the side to store other materials like gift tags. Since it’s on wheels, it’s super easy to move when you need to clean or to wheel around when the time comes to wrap gifts again.

No matter how much wrapping paper you have to store, these products can be a huge help in staying organized. They’re not the only options, either—try easy at-home hacks like storing wrapping paper in garment bags for even quicker storage options!
