The Sussex County Republican Party is launching its “Lake Hopatcong Trump Boat Parade” at 11 a.m. Saturday to show their allegiance with the commander-in-chief — but anti-Trump forces are vowing to fire back with a protest flotilla of their own, nj.com reported Thursday.
“We will ride alongside the Trump supporters and demonstrate that our community doesn’t stand for hate,” said a flyer posted online by organizers, titled “No hate on our lake.”
“For those of you without boats, please gather on the River Styx Bridge in Hopatcong to share your voice,” it said. “Please bring signs, pro-Biden and other anti-Trump items. This protest will be peaceful and safe!”
The expected encounter coincides with Trump’s Saturday visit to the Garden State, where the president has scheduled a 9 a.m. rally in Bedminster, according to mycentraljersey.com.
Sussex County Republican Chairman Jerry Scanlan is scheduled to lead the floating parade, nj.com said. A Facebook announcement of the GOP gathering has already gotten responses from 3,000 expected attendees.
“It’s time for a parade,” the announcement said. “A Boat Parade in support of President Trump.”
“Bring your vessel decked out with American flags, Trump flags, patriotic gear,” it said. “Patriotic clothing encouraged.”
Both sides have promised a peaceful face-off, and said the majority of the protesters are likely to remain on the shores of the massive lake.
Lake Hopatcong covers about four miles and is bordered by four municipalities in Morris and Sussex counties, nj.com said.
