#Prey Star Amber Midthunder Addresses Possible Sequel

“Prey Star Amber Midthunder Addresses Possible Sequel”

Perhaps we haven’t seen the last of Naru. Prey, the Predator prequel that found big success upon its release on Hulu, has quickly been established as one of the strongest installments of the franchise. It currently stands as the highest-rated movie in the Predator series on Rotten Tomatoes with many longtime Predator fans holding Prey in just as high regard as the popular original.

Given the success of Prey, a direct sequel is not outside the realm of possibility. There are not currently any plans for another Predator film, but if Prey 2 enters the planning stages, could we count on star Amber Midthunder to get back on board? In a new interview with Entertainment Weekly, Midthunder comments on the possibility. She first addressed how many fans have come up to her asking about a sequel and admits that it’s very humbling and exciting to be on the receiving end of these requests.

MOVIEWEB VIDEO OF THE DAY

“I’ve heard a lot of fans say that. I think it’s very flattering. I didn’t really think much about what would happen to the movie coming out. I was so focused on making the movie that I think to me, it was like, that was the finish line. I didn’t have a lot of expectations, one way or the other, for it coming out. So, for people to respond so positively to that level, I just feel really humbled by it. I feel really excited.”

Midthunder goes on to suggest that she is open to the idea of a sequel, but notes how long it took for director Dan Trachtenberg to get Prey off the ground, insinuating that it could take a while for a sequel to materialize. She also says that Prey 2 will depend upon the potential sequel getting a solid enough idea for a plot to have the movie stand on its own.

“I don’t know what the plans are for the future, but I trust whatever decision is made. Dan (Trachtenberg, who directed Prey) spent so long developing this with 20th Century. Obviously, all that time was used to make a really great thing. I’m sure that nobody would make something again, if it wasn’t amazing. So I think whatever happens, I think it will be the right choice.”

Many Fans Want a Prey Sequel

It’s not a surprise to see so many fans asking for a sequel, given just how well-received Prey has been. It’s a conversation that has also made its way to director Dan Trachtenberg in a separate interview with The Hollywood Reporter. Trachtenberg explained that he remained focused on the story at hand while making Prey but that he still wanted to put in a sequel tease at the end just to keep the door open for potentially exploring more of Naru’s story.

“The nerd in me looked that far ahead, as far as he could look, before we started writing this movie, but the adult in me said, “Don’t count your chickens and just be careful. Try and make the best movie possible, straight away.” End-credit sequence aside, there is something refreshing about seeing a movie that is not really intended to be just a part one to something else. There’s something nice about seeing a complete thought. On the complete other hand, I love that what would’ve been a post-credit scene in other movies, is an animated end-title sequence in our movie. Our end titles are still storytelling.”

In any case, we’ll likely be seeing a lot of Midthunder in the future, as Prey has definitely established her as an instant fan favorite in Hollywood. Aside from Prey, she can also currently be seen in the acclaimed series Reservation Dogs.

Prey is streaming on Hulu.
