#President Trump commits to ‘orderly transition’ of power

President Trump committed to an “orderly transition” of power early Thursday morning after a chaotic day on Capitol Hill.

Trump released a statement shortly after president-elect Joe Biden’s Electoral College victory was certified by Congress.

“Even though I totally disagree with the outcome of the election, and the facts bear me out, nevertheless there will be an orderly transition on January 20th,” the president said in a statement posted to Twitter by his communication advisor Dan Scavino.

“I have always said we would continue our fight to ensure that only legal votes were counted. While this represents the end of the greatest first term in presidential history, it’s only the beginning of our fight to Make America Great Again!”

The president had addressed a rally on Wednesday to encourage a challenge to the Electoral College certification process. After the rally, a mob of demonstrators forced their way into the Capitol building.

One person was shot and killed in the havoc and more than 50 arrests were made.

Congress later reconvened and — after two Republican attempts to challenge the election results — completed the process early Thursday morning.
