Publisher polyband anime wants to be able to publish Hayao Miyazaki’s “Future Boy Conan” in German via crowdfunding…

Hayao Miyazaki is famous for his breathtaking anime films at Studio Ghibli (including «Princess Mononoke», «Spirited Away»). Even before his feature film career, Miyazaki worked on several anime series. One of the series is called «Future Boy Conan» and emerged in 1978 as his 26-part solo directorial debut. Nippon Animation produced the series, which is inspired by Alexander Key’s American sci-fi novel The Incredible Tide (1970).

Although a renowned director is behind the project, no one has published the title in German so far. The publisher polyband anime has set itself the task of doing this with a Crowdfunding campaign on Kickstarter to change.

Anime co-financed by fans

While there are regular Kickstarter campaigns for anime publishing in Japan and the USA, this is (almost) new territory in Germany. (Recently, there was a financing project for Anime Kultur eV for «Shakugan no Shana»)

Polyband anime, with the help of the anime community, wants to release «Future Boy Conan» on DVD, Blu-ray and VoD realize. For this the publisher has 25.000€ alone for an OmU publication and 75.000€ including a German synchronization as Goals set. In both cases there should be a combo set with 4 DVDs and Blu-rays.

There you will find episode 1 with German subtitles and you can already register for the notification of the start of the campaign. What is Kickstarter?

Kickstarter is an online platform on which people can support projects financially in order to guarantee the project’s development. Kickstarter not only serves to collect donations, but is usually involved (exclusive) rewards for supporters coupled.

So expect supporters of this project from polyband anime some exclusive pre-order extras, co-creation at the release, the 8-disc combo set (DVD & Blu-ray), credits, visits and much more. There are different “donation categories” that can be selected. As so-called “add-ons” you can donate extra money outside of the donation categories. When the synchro goal is reached, items will be unlocked for certain add-on amounts. You can Autographs and messages from the future synchrocast as well as visits to the dubbing studio to get. Twenty years ago, a terrible war with magnetic weapons tilted the earth’s axis, earthquakes and tidal waves destroyed civilization. Conan is born into this new world and grows up on a remote island, adopted by his grandfather. But his life changes forever when a mysterious girl named Lana washes ashore. She is being pursued by shadowy agents who are trying to use her in their new plan to control what’s left of the world.
