The video proceeds to flash through his 20 years of life with photos and clips from his childhood, high school graduation and rap career performing in front of thousands before closing with the July 16 release date.
Pop Smoke’s Shoot for the Stars Aim for the Moon debut album dropped five months after his tragic death in July 2020. Since its release, the posthumous effort has spent the second-most weeks in the Billboard 200’s Top 10 of any Hip Hop album ever behind MC Hammer’s Please Hammer Don’t Hurt ‘Em.
Pop Smoke ended up netting five wins at the 2021 Billboard Music Awards, including victories in the Top New Artist, Top Rap Artist, Top Male Rap Artist, Top Billboard 200 Album and Top Rap Album categories for Shoot for the Stars Aim for the Moon.
The Brooklyn drill icon was murdered during an armed home invasion in a rented Hollywood Hills mansion on February 19, 2020. Four arrests in the case have been made and one suspect remains at large. A preliminary trial hearing revealed a 15-year-old pulled the trigger multiple times and robbed Pop of his Rolex watch.
