Miami, Florida – Pooh Shiesty was arrested in October 2020 for his alleged involvement in the robbery and shooting of two people in Miami. Ahead of the trial beginning on Monday (October 25), his attorneys are asking the judge to block prosecutors from using evidence of alleged crimes that took place during his childhood.

According to documents obtained by The Shade Room, the government plans to show evidence of past acts in order to show “opportunity, intent, knowledge, or absence of mistake.” One of the incidents is a robbery case when Pooh Shiesty was 11 years old, and the other is an assault case when he was 14 years old.

In the filing, Pooh Shiesty’s team says they government also plans to show 16 instances attributed to Choppa Gang members’ use of firearms to “advance their interest.” Shiesty’s attorneys argue the alleged crimes mainly focus on people who aren’t named in the indictments, and that one instance even occured while he was detained.

Pooh Shiesty’s defense attorney wrote, “These actions have no direct nexus to Lontrell Williams other than in speculation. The last incident occurs while Lontrell Williams is in custody.”

Prosecutors are expected to respond to the request by Thursday (October 21), just days before the trial starts.

The charges Pooh Shiesty is facing include discharging a firearm during a violent crime, conspiracy and Hobbs Act robbery, with the Memphis rapper facing a maximum sentence of life in prison if convicted. Shiesty initially wanted to push back the trial until at least December 6 to build his defense, but recently withdrew his request under the advice of his legal team.

Signed to Gucci Mane’s 1017 label, Pooh Shiesty’s debut mixtape Shiesty Season was released in February and peaked at No. 3 on the Billboard 200 chart. His double-platinum single “Back in Blood” featuring Lil Durk also reached No. 13 on the Hot 100.
