“#NYPD cop saved by bulletproof vest released from hospital”
The NYPD cop shot in Brooklyn but saved by his bulletproof vest was released from the hospital Friday — in what officials are calling a “miracle.”
“It’s nothing short of a #Christmas miracle that our officer will recover after being shot tonight in Brooklyn,” NYPD Chief of Department Terence Monahan tweeted early Friday of Officer Connor Boalick. “There’s no doubt these Finest saved lives. There’s also no doubt they’re NYC heroes!”
Boalick, 27, was shot twice in the back after responding to a domestic dispute at 1798 Bergen St. in Crown Heights after 9 p.m. on Christmas Eve, according to police sources.
The suspect, identified as William Moss, allegedly shot the officer after his girlfriend’s mother called 911 and reported that Moss had allegedly threatened to come over with a gun, law-enforcement said.
Boalick was talking to the girlfriend when Moss showed up and opened fire then fled. Police pursued him to Prospect Place and fired approximately 6 rounds before taking him into custody.
Boalick was taken to Kings County Hospital. It wasn’t immediately clear when he was released.
Moss was charged with attempted murder, assault, criminal use of a firearm, criminal possession of a weapon and reckless endangerment, according to police sources.
Police Benevolent Association boss Pat Lynch said Friday at a press conference outside the hospital that a culture that coddles and emboldens criminals led to the cop shooting.
