#Plane filmed flying along Florida beach before emergency landing

Incredible video footage shows a small plane flying just feet above the sand as it makes an emergency landing on a Florida beach.

The single-engine Cessna 172 Skyhawk was heading to the Bahamas from Fort Lauderdale on Tuesday afternoon when it suffered engine failure, officials told the South Florida Sun Sentinel.

The pilot — the only person onboard — tried to turn back, but had to abort that plan and instead land on Dania Beach.

Beachgoers told the paper the plane went “right over their heads” for a quarter of a mile before landing safely with no injuries.

“The beach had many beachgoers on it today as it’s a holiday week, and for the pilot to steer clear of any beachgoers was a miraculous feat,” Broward Fire Rescue Battalion Chief Michael Kane told the paper.

“Given the circumstances, this pilot made a phenomenal landing.”

One beachgoer, Derek Thompson, told NBC Miami that he had to race out of the way before he managed to record video of the amazing flight along the beach.

“I looked up ahead and saw this plane coming in really super low, and I thought, wow, this guy is flying super low. Is he going to try and land here?” he said. “He just kept getting lower and lower and eventually as he went past me, he landed almost right in front of me.”
