The couple, who don’t want to be identified, refuted claims from the protester, Nique Craft, who claimed to have been invited over for a drink and a chat Saturday amid a march in the city.
Viral video showed Craft, in a “Nazi lives don’t matter” shirt, approaching the older man and woman as they dined al fresco at the Penn Avenue eatery and guzzling one of their beers before walking off.
In an interview with local station KDKA, the couple — who said they support the Black Lives Movement but not the harassment seen over the weekend — said Craft “took the glass and threw it on the ground, causing a safety issue.”
They called on Craft to apologize.
Craft, who identifies as non-binary, told the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette that the pair invited them over to have a drink and discuss the situation.
“So, being a theatrical, snarky type of person that I am, I said that I don’t have time to wait for you to order another beer,” Craft said. “I will take the one you have.”
Craft also insisted the videos don’t show the entire story — saying three men were screaming “Blue lives matter” at Black Lives Matter protesters beforehand.
“Even though people [at the restaurant] saw that whole thing, they still saw me as an aggressor,” said Craft.
Videos also show other protesters antagonizing the mostly white diners, calling them an “embarrassment” and screaming, “f—k the white people that built the system.”
