#PGA Championship picks: Adam Scott will win second major

The Post’s Mark Cannizzaro makes his picks for this week’s PGA Championship at Harding Park in San Francisco:

Adam Scott

The 40-year-old Australian and past Masters champion hasn’t played on the PGA Tour since the coronavirus pandemic shut down the tour in March. Scott, who’s been working on his game in North Carolina in recent weeks, finished in the top 10 at the past two PGA Championships, including a tie for eighth at Bethpage Black last year. This is a total hunch pick, because inactivity generally is not a positive.

Brooks Koepka

He’s going for a three-peat, the first player in 93 years to do it at a PGA Championship. And he appeared to find his form last week in Memphis, coming within a slightly errant tee shot in the 72nd hole of possible winning. His power game suits what Harding Park asks of players.

Patrick Cantlay

The 28-year-old is quiet and completely under the radar. But he’s really good and unafraid of the big stage. He tied for third at last year’s PGA and finished tied for ninth at the Masters. He’s a California native and one of the game’s best ball strikers, which will be required this week at Harding Park.

Bryson DeChambeau

It’s difficult to dismiss the hulked-up DeChambeau despite the fact that his hot start since the Tour restarted its schedule in June has cooled of late. He’s the longest hitter in the field and Harding Park will require length.

Rickie Fowler

Could it finally be Fowler’s time in a major after his 0-for-39 run? He’s not been in good form this year as he’s tried to revamp his swing. But he looked better last week in Memphis and has been working with a new swing coach, John Tillery. Fowler has made the cut in 14 consecutive majors, second to only Brooks Koepka’s 22 among active players.
