Former Democratic presidential candidate Pete Buttigieg has joined onetime foe Joe Biden’s White House transition team, which would oversee the transfer of power if the party wins in November.

Buttigieg is joining the team’s advisory board, Biden’s campaign announced Saturday.

The ex-mayor of South Bend, Ind. — who was among those who battled Biden for the Democratic nomination before bowing out amid flailing poll figures in March — will be working with several former Obama administration officials. They include Susan Rice, who served as national security adviser to then-President Obama — and was considered by Biden as a potential running mate before the presidential candidate chose US Sen. Kamala Harris of California.

“We are preparing for this transition amid the backdrop of a global health crisis and struggling economy,” transition-team chief Ted Kaufman said in a statement.

“This is a transition like no other, and the team being assembled will help Joe Biden meet the urgent challenges facing our country on Day One.”

Biden is facing Republican President Trump in November.
