#Peacock: What to watch on NBC’s new streaming service, how much it costs

It’s been a busy year for new streaming services, with Disney , Apple TV , HBO Max and Quibi entering the arena.

Now, NBC is jumping in with Peacock.

The platform, launching July 15, will have a free tier with more than 7,500 hours of movies, shows and live programming in NBC’s late-night, reality, sports and news offerings. The premium tier will cost $4.99 a month with 15,000 hours of programming, or $9.99 a month for ad-free content.

Compared to the other services, that’s reasonable: Disney is $6.99 per month, while HBO Max is a whopping $14.99 a month (for those who do not already have HBO).

But is it worth the bang for your buck?

Peacock’s back catalog includes shows such as “30 Rock,” “Friday Night Lights,” “Downton Abbey” and older classics such as “Cheers,” “The Carol Burnett Show” and “Saved By The Bell” — as well as current seasons of “Saturday Night Live” and “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.” Coming at an unspecified later, post-launch date will be “Bates Motel,” “Brooklyn Nine-Nine,” “Keeping Up with the Kardashians” and the much-touted “The Office” starting in January.

Movies include “Jurassic Park,” “American Psycho” and “Do the Right Thing.”

Here’s a rundown of original programming that will be available on launch day.

“Brave New World”

This sci-fi epic, starring Demi Moore, Jessica Brown Findlay (“Downton Abbey”) and Harry Lloyd (“Game of Thrones”), is a slick new adaptation of the classic 1931 Aldous Huxley novel of the same name.

“The Capture”

Originally a hit U.K. show that aired last year, “The Capture” is a thriller set in the world of intelligence services and fake news, starring Ron Perlman (“Sons of Anarchy”) and Callum Turner (“War and Peace”).

“Intelligence”

David Schwimmer (“Friends”) stars in this U.K. workplace comedy as a pompous American NSA agent who’s making trouble.

“In Deep with Ryan Lochte”

This documentary about the Olympic swimmer goes into his 2016 scandal in Brazil, his new family life and his attempt to train for the next Olympics — where he’ll be among the oldest on the team if he qualifies at age 35.

“Psych 2: Lassie Comes Home”

The TV movie revisits the world and characters of eight-season USA detective comedy “Psych,” which originally aired from 2006 to 2014 and starred Dulé Hill, James Roday and Timothy Omundson (“This Is Us”) as Santa Barbara Police Chief Carlton Lassiter.

“Lost Speedways”

Created and hosted by Dale Earnhardt Jr., this series takes a look at NASCAR racing cathedrals throughout history.

“Where’s Waldo?”

The animated children’s TV series — based on the bespectacled book character of the same name — originally premiered on Universal Kids in 2019 but has moved to Peacock for its second season.

“Cleopatra in Space”

Produced by Dreamworks Animation, this comedy takes a look at Cleopatra’s “teenage years.”

“Curious George”

Based on the hit book character of the same name, it originally aired for nine seasons on PBS Kids. Jeff Bennett (“Dexter’s Laboratory”) voices the Man in the Yellow Hat.
