Former President Barack Obama praised the leadership of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi while headlining the final night of a major fundraising effort for House Democrats.

Speaking to donors Sunday evening at the final installment of the “Hold the House” virtual event series, the former commander-in-chief touted Pelosi (D-Calif.) as “one good reason to keep the House.”

“One good reason to keep the House is to keep Nancy Pelosi speaker, and that would be enough,” Obama said to event attendees, according to Politico.

Tickets to attend one of the four events that took place started at $1,000 and went way up to $100,000 to co-chair the series.

Obama went on to describe the Democratic-led House of Representatives as the only governmental body fighting back against what he referred to as “lawlessness.”

“If you look at the last two years or year and a half…the House has been the bulwark against a lawlessness that we’ve seen and a disregard for basic democratic norms that has come not just from the White House, but has been enabled by the Republicans in the Senate and, if they had their druthers, the Republicans in the House,” the former president said of the GOP.

The series, which Politico reports raised $14 million for the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, was executive produced by musician John Legend.

Obama’s appearance follows a fundraiser he held for presumptive Democratic nominee Joe Biden late last month where he pulled no punches about his successor’s administration — and raised $11 million in the process.

“What we have seen over the last couple of years is a White House enabled by Republicans in Congress and a media structure that supports them — that has not just differed in terms of policy, but has gone at the very foundations of who we are and who we should be.

“That suggests facts don’t matter, science doesn’t matter. That suggests that a deadly disease is fake news. That sees the Justice Department as simply an extension and arm of the personal concerns of the president. That actively promotes division, and considers some people in this country more real as Americans than others,” Obama said while sharing a split screen with his former vice president.
