#How Tom Thibodeau expects Knicks’ input on coaching staff will work

Tom Thibodeau confirmed the Knicks front office will have input regarding his coaching staff — a process sources say is new to him since he has previously picked his own guys.

Knicks GM Scott Perry claimed Thibodeau “will have the autonomy on who he hires.” However, The Post has reported new executive vice president William Wesley has lobbied for Thibodeau to diversify his coaching staff from prior stints in Chicago and Minnesota. Mike Woodson and Mike Miller, the Knicks’ interim former coach, are expected to be on Thibodeau’s staff. Miller has a year left on his contract. Wesley repped Woodson when he coached the Knicks.

“No final decisions have been made,’’ Thibodeau said on his introductory Zoom call Thursday. “But when you’re putting your staff together, you’re looking at the qualities you think will fit your team best, what you think you need. I think you always sit down with your front office to go over the people you think can help.

“I’m confident that we’re going to sit down, I’m going to listen [to] the people that they have, I’m going to recommend some people that I know. Some of them are going to be on both lists. I’m real comfortable with that. I think we’re going to get a great staff and I’m looking forward to getting started with it.”

The Post has already reported Thibodeau will want his longtime assistant Andy Greer and possibly his brother Larry. The Greers are both Manhattan natives. Andy and Thibodeau were assistants on the Knicks and Andy went with him to Chicago and Minnesota. Larry was a Thibodeau assistant in Minnesota.

One other key Thibodeau lieutenant is Dice Yoshimoto, who was with him in Chicago and Minnesota and is considered his utility man. Thibodeau could also bring back Rick Brunson, the ex-Knick who was Leon Rose’s first client. Brunson worked on Thibodeau’s staff in Chicago and Minnesota but resigned in 2018 over workplace misconduct allegations.

Wesley is also close to Kentucky assistant Kenny Payne, and a Kentucky media outlet reported he would be considered. One source said Payne may not be interested. Payne recently told The Post former Kentucky forward Kevin Knox needs to turn the page from last season and a new coaching staff can help him reach his potential.
