#Will These MCU Plot Holes Ever Be Addressed?

“Will These MCU Plot Holes Ever Be Addressed?”

The MCU has sustained its relevance in mainstream pop culture for nearly two decades. It all started with Iron Man way back in 2008, and here we are now with a plethora of TV shows, films, webisodes, alternate histories, flashbacks, and flash-forwards – all incorporated into the Universe seamlessly.

The MCU has not only evolved with the times but Marvel films are regularly praised for their attention to detail and incredible foreshadowing. Of course, things still slip through the cracks, and over the years, the MCU has raked up plenty of plot holes and continuity errors. Any ardent fan would have a dozen (if not more) theories to explain away these plot holes, no matter how inexplicable or egregious they may be. But there might still be a chance that MCU will eventually address some of these plot holes as we move forward.

Here are some we would definitely like more explanation on.

Why Does Mobius Not Recognise Loki in the End?

Right before Sylvie decides to kill He Who Remains, she sends Loki back to the TVA, where he encounters a version of Mobius who doesn’t recognise Loki at all. According to the first Mobius we meet, the Lokis are hunted down in all the timelines because they are the most common variants causing Nexus events that lead to the Sacred Timeline branching out.

This has led to some fan theories that Loki ends up in a completely different universe in the last episode of the show, where the Lokis aren’t the main threat. Some theories speculate that Loki ends up in a timeline where Kang the Conqueror has successfully been able to take over the Sacred Timeline, eliminate all the Lokis, and do away with the facade of the Time Keepers. Perhaps season two will shed more light on this.

What Happened to Goose, the Flerken Cat?

Cats are adorable, and orange cats are the absolute best, which makes Goose missing in action a sadder plot hole than the rest on this list. Goose, the Flerken masquerading as a cat, arrives on Earth with Mar-Vell, a Kree defector trying to help Skrull refugees escape war and find a safer home. But after Mar-Vell’s death, Goose ends up alone till Nick Fury finds her and takes a liking to her.

Fury did lose an eye because of this decision, but then again, have you met a cat lover who minds a scratch here or there from their beloved furballs? The real question remains; why have we not spotted Goose even once since the events of 1995?

Why Are Some Multiverse Variants Played by the Same Actors, and Some Aren’t?

Even though the multiverse variants of Peter Parker and Loki were played by different actors (to much applause and fanfare), all the variants of Doctor Strange and Wanda Maximoff have been played by Benedict Cumberbatch and Elizabeth Olsen.

Marvel producer Richie Palmer tried to explain away the many Lokis because of the chaotic energy surrounding the God of Mischief. Palmer told Empire’s Spoiler Special:

“Loki is pure chaos, so it makes sense to him, in the grand calculus of the Multiverse, on the Multiversal spectrum, he would be one that looks like different people. But ultimately he conceded that … it depends on, frankly, the medium we’re telling the story.”

Why Was There a Fake Infinity Gauntlet in Asgard?

Even though Hela dismisses the Infinity Gauntlet displayed in Odin’s vault as a fake (and not just the only one), it still counts as a plot hole. It raises so many questions.

How many other artifacts in Odin’s vault are fake? Did Odin know? Did he hide it from everyone because he didn’t want others to know that most of his prized possessions are fake? If it was so diligently guarded by the Destroyer, how come no one ever figured out the gauntlet’s authenticity?

Why Didn’t the Masters of the Mystic Arts Turn Up in WandaVision?

The order of Masters of the Mystic Arts was created with the sole purpose of protecting the Earth from mystical threats. Wanda taking control over Westview eventually leads to her transforming into the Scarlet Witch. The Masters of the Mystic Arts feared the prophesied Scarlet Witch because she can warp the very fabric of reality and destroy the world as we know it. Then why not show up to prevent it from happening?

Well, it is possible that Wanda’s concealment hex and the fact that the incidents of WandaVision happened a mere three weeks after the events of Avengers: Endgame threw the order off their game. But it still feels like this is something that an order as ancient and as important as the Masters of the Mystic Arts should have made contingency plans for.

In The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, Bucky, aka the Winter Soldier, travels the world like some modern-day digital nomad, befriending people he wronged in the past, and no one recognises him. Sam, aka The Falcon/New Captain America, gets denied a simple business loan because, apparently, he’s not that big a deal yet. But Clint, aka Hawkeye, cannot even go to dinner with his family without constantly being recognised by people.

While Captain America or Iron Man (who has never even tried to hide his identity) will definitely have more visibility and clout, heroes like Hawkeye and Falcon should be on the same level on the popularity scale, but they don’t seem to be. So which is the case? Are our superheroes popular in reel-life or not?

How Do the Pym Particles Really Work?

According to Hank Pym in Ant-Man, shrinking something doesn’t reduce the amount of atoms in that object. It just reduces the space between them. So by that logic, when Scott shrinks down and falls on a vinyl record, it should get smashed to bits. Instead, tiny Scott gets whacked off the record when the needle hits him, which shouldn’t happen if he still weighs what he does when he is his normal size. It would also not give him any advantage when he grows into mega size.

So is it that Hank Pym doesn’t really understand how the particle works, or does he chooses not to explain his work to everyone? Or is it just another one of MCU’s many unexplained plot holes?
