#President Trump plans to give RNC speech live at White House

President Trump says he plans to give his Republican National Convention speech this month from the White House.

“I’ll probably do mine live from the White House,” Trump said Wednesday during a “Fox & Friends” interview.

The White House is “the easiest, least expensive and I think very beautiful” option, Trump said. “If for some reason somebody had difficulty with it, I could go someplace else.”

A traditional convention acceptance speech happens on the Thursday of a week packed with events building up to it. It’s an opportunity to harness intense coverage to reach voters who may not closely follow politics.

Democrats all but canceled their convention in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, one week before the RNC due to the coronavirus pandemic and Republicans followed suit after a surge in COVID-19 infections across the South.

In July, Trump canceled plans to host most RNC events in Jacksonville, Florida, and moved the remaining events back to the original site in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Trump said in the “Fox & Friends” interview that journalists would be allowed to cover nomination proceedings in Charlotte, rescinding an initial plan to keep out the press.

“We’re gonna let the press go in and watch it, but you know, socially distanced and lots of things are happening. The state is in a lockdown state, so we had no choice,” he said.
