#NYPD plans to scale back Trump Tower presence after Inauguration Day

The NYPD plans to coordinate with the Secret Service to scale back their presence around Trump Tower the day after President-elect Joe Biden is inaugurated, sources said.

While President Trump has yet to concede, the planned Jan. 21 actions concerning enforcement around the Fifth Avenue skyscraper indicate the presidential transition is moving forward on a local level.

The portion of East 56th Street immediately south of Trump Tower is also expected to reopen to vehicular traffic after Trump leaves office, sources said.

The anticipated moves were first reported by ABC News. The outlet also revealed that the Secret Service is asking agents in Trump’s detail if they want to be transferred to Palm Beach, Florida — where the president has his primary home.

Trump last year changed his primary residence from Trump Tower to his Mar-a-Lago Club in Palm Beach.

During his presidency, Trump often spent some of his winters in the warm weather at Mar-a-Lago. He and First Lady Melania Trump have also voted in Florida since March, according to the Sun-Sentinel.
