While trying to figure out hidden mathematical formulas behind it, new research suggests that the more you throw in a raid, the better your odds of catching the raid boss.

The dynamics of raids in Pokémon Go have always been a mystery. Silph Road went to the trouble of tossing 6,500 balls at raid bosses and monitoring results. Their experiment unearthed previously unknown facts about concepts, and we’re here to share them with you!

It was discovered that throwing a PokéBall at a raid boss more than once increases the chances of capturing it. What exactly is this variable? It’s still unclear at this point, however, this study clearly shows that there is a certain factor influencing it.

Pokémon Go has the formula to determine whether you catch a particular Pokémon. It involves analyzing the Pokemon type you’re trying to catch, the Pokemon’s CR level, what PokeBall you use, berries, throw circle size, curveball usage, and medal bonuses; and then determining whether you’ll catch it or not. While most of us know this, Silph Road Researchers’ work found another factor influencing the result when you try to catch raid bosses.

The Analytical Chart

• The raid showdown begins with an amplifier of 1. It will then quickly rise above that after two tosses, as shown in this illustration. The equation is around 2 when you reach nine throws, which indicates you’re significantly more likely to catch the raid boss after nine Pokeballs.
• It can be noted that when the hidden multiplier is 1, it doesn’t do anything and therefore implies there is no hidden multiplier with raid bosses. But anything higher than 1 proves that there is a hidden multiplier affecting your odds of capturing the boss.
• Well, the factor behind it might be unknown but this surely gives you an idea of what to do, so that your chances of capturing the raid bosses increase. Go, catch them all!
